These questions may appear as a piece of cake but sometimes they may get very tricky as one cannot do guess work in such questions.

A district or zilla is a administrative division of an Indian state or territory. Sometimes, districts are subdivided into sub-divisions, and in others directly into tehsils or talukas.

Each District has officials for proper administration , management and for maintaining law and order.
- A Deputy Commissioner or District Magistrate or District Collector (an IAS Officer) is in charge of administration and revenue collection.
- A Superintendent of Police or Deputy Commissioner of Police (an IPS Officer) is responsible for maintaining law and order
- A Deputy Conservator of Forests (an IFS Officer) is entrusted with the management of the forests, environment and wildlife of the district.
Let us now proceed to some important facts about Indian districts.
- There are a total of 707 districts as of 2016.
- Thane district (Maharashtra) topped the list for being the most populated district in India
- Dibang Valley (Arunachal Pradesh) is the least populated district in India.
- Kohima district (Nagaland) registered highest population growth rate.
- North East Delhi district (Delhi) is found to be most densely populated district of India.
- Mahe district (Puducherry) registered the Highest Sex Ratio (Gender Ratio) of Female per 1000 males.
- Daman district has Lowest Sex Ratio of 533 females per 1000 males.
- Serchhip district (Mizoram) has highest literacy rate of 98.76 percent.
- Alirajpur district (MP) is the least literate district of India with figure of 37.22 percent only.
- West Midnapore district (West Bengal) is home to the most villages of any district in India with 8,694 villages.
- Mumbai district (Maharashtra) has the highest deposits in Scheduled Commercial Banks.
- Guragaon district (Haryana) has the highest monthly per capita expenditure.
- Burdwan district (West Bengal) has the highest number of households working under NREGA.
