Staff Selection Commission has issued a notice regarding the postponement of CGL Tier I Examination, 2016. The examination is now scheduled to take place in August 2016 instead of May 2016.
The exact dates for SSC CGL 2016 Tier 1 exam will be announced later.
Why Was The SSC CGL 2016 Exam Postponed?
The new notice does not give any detailed information as to why the exam has been postponed. It just says that “the decision has been taken in the larger interest of the candidates” appearing for the SSC CGL 2016 Tier 1 examination.
However, a news-article that appeared in the Hindi newspaper ‘Amar Ujala’ on 13 April 2016 mentions some probable reasons.
- A lot of changes are going to be made in the exam pattern.
- Tier 1 will now be conducted online. And will be made a screening exam
- Tier 2 will also be conducted online now.
PLEASE NOTE THESE POINTS HAVE NOT BEEN CONFIRMED INDEPENDENTLY. We still need to wait for official details from SSC.
In fact, if you go back to the official SSC CGL notification (links here) and read the point number 9.1 – it seems SSC was already hinting at these changes! But all of us did not take any notice 😀
A major reason for this flurry of changes is the embarrassment which SSC had to face when SSC CPO paper was leaked last month. Conducting online tests will help to curb down these illegal activities and also the results can be announced much faster.
If this news is true, then naturally SSC would need a lot of time to make arrangements for infrastructure and develop new processes. Hence the delay!
What Should You Do Now?
This is a blessing in disguise for you! Now you have good three more months to prepare for the Tier 1 examination. If you were not able to prepare for the exam due to some reason, you should jump at this opportunity. Life does not give everyone a second chance. You are very lucky. Use this time properly.
