SSC CGL notification (2016) has been released today. The complete PDF file can be downloaded from the SSC website. It will also be published in the  Employment News/Rozgar Samachar dated 13 February 2016.

Three important changes have been announced

  1. There will be NO interview for any post
  2. A new post has been announced — Assistant Audit Officer
  3. MEA cipher post has been discontinued from this year onwards.

Nothing much has changed otherwise compared to previous year’s process in terms of syllabus, paper pattern etc.

DO NOT rush to fill the application form. You have time at least until 10 March 2016 to fill the application form. I don’t mean to say that you wait until the end but first understand everything.

Educational Qualifications

The cut-off date for educational qualifications is 01 August 2016. This means that you should have appeared for your qualifying exam AND the results should have been announced ON or BEFORE 01 August 2016.

Do note that you will have to provide certificates (original or provisional) during document verification to prove that you did clear your exam before 01 August 2016.

I am stressing this point because many people have doubt on this simple issue. Now let’s go through the actual qualification required.

Educational Qualifications For Assistant Audit Officer

A Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University or equivalent.

However, it is also desired that the applicants possess one of the following over and above the mandatory requirement — Chartered Accountant, Cost & Management Accountant, Company Secretary, Masters in Commerce, Masters in Business Studies, Masters in Business Administration (Finance), Masters in Business Economics.

Educational Qualifications For Statistical Investigator Grade – II

A Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University or equivalent, along with either of the two below:

  1. At least 60% in Mathematics at 12th standard level, OR,
  2. Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level

Educational Qualifications For Compiler

A Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University or equivalent, along with any of the following as a subject in your degree course (compulsory or elective subject — both are fine).Economics

  1. Economics
  2. Statistics
  3. Mathematics

Educational Qualifications For All Other Posts

Only A Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University or equivalent.

Age Limit

Three things you need to note:

  1. Different posts have different age limits, see the table in the official notification.
  2. The cut-off date for calculating age is 1st August 2016 (same as that for educational qualification). So find your age on this date and check accordingly.
  3. Reserved categories (caste based, health-based, ex-servicemen, central government employees and special women categories) have relaxed age limits. Check the official notification for complete details.

Another clarification here, if for example, the age limit for a post (for your category) is 27 years. And on the cut-off date you are 27 years 1 month and 1 days old, then you are disqualified for the post. You HAVE to be 27 years old or less. I hope you understand this.

  • Hi..
    i am a chartered accountant.
I can apply only for assistant audit officer (age more than 27 years).
Is there any chance to clear the exam if i get cut off marks.
As i know if someone get cut off marks den he/she would get any department as per preference.
but in my case,as i dont have any preference,if i clear cut off den is dere any chance to clear it.

  • Hi Sakshi,
You are required to clear the cut-off in Tier 1, then clear the cut-off in Tier 2, and then finally make it to the merit list in your category. After this, you will allotted the department as per your preference. Since you have only one choice, you will get it. Unless of course all the seats are filled up before your number comes. Please let me know if I missed some part of your question.

    • Thank for the information you provided...
Can you tell me how many posts will be there(AAO).Any idea...
and what could be cut off for this particular post..

  • It would be difficult to make predictions for actual cut-off because now candidates will be be selected over two stages, compared to three (2 tests + 1 interview) earlier. But it is safe to say that the cut-offs will rise more than the usual for both the tiers.

Another possibility is that SSC may decide to implement sectional cut-offs. Till now they have not been doing so. But if you read the notification carefully, at one place it reads:

"The Commission shall have the discretion to fix different minimum qualifying standards in each component of the Tier-I Examination taking into consideration among others, category-wise vacancies and category-wise number of
candidates. Only those candidates, who have scored above the cut off marks fixed by the Commission, would be required to appear in the Tier –II Examination."

  • As there will be no interview, cut-predictions will go for a toss this year. Expect them to be much higher than the previous years. Also, Assistant Audit Officer is a newly included post. From what I understand a lot of AAO posts have been lying vacant so CAG is trying to fill these posts by direct recruitment otherwise their work will suffer.

I don't have any numbers because this is not available in the public domain. If I were to make a guess, the number would probably be in the region of 500-700, if not higher.
