In this post we are trying to elaborate on How To Prepare For New India Assurance Assistant Exam 2017. Let’s discuss the syllabus and preparation strategies for each section.
Phase-I: Preliminary Examination
Preliminary Examination will consist of Objective Tests for 100 marks will be conducted online. This test would be of 1-hour duration consisting of 3 sections as follows:
1. Reasoning – 35 marks
- Difficulty Level – Usually high-level questions (35 questions)
- Syllabus – The topics generally covered under this section are: Verbal Reasoning, Alphabet test, Mathematical operations, Odd man out, classification, blood relations, syllogism, coding-decoding, causes effect, analysis, sitting arrangements, statement and conclusion, decision making, puzzle, assertion and reasoning, word formation, series. (Few other changes may be included from time to time.)
Strategy for preparation
Initially, this section needs thorough preparation especially with the sitting arrangement kind of questions, but once you get the hang of it reasoning can prove to be high scoring.
This section is to test your analytical and reasoning skills.
- Reasoning can be comparatively easy to score once you have adequate practice. Questions are almost of the similar kind to what is asked in the other exams.
- The level of questions asked is similar to that of the bank PO papers.
- Blood relations and word formations are relatively easy and scoring topics. Practice more so that you get good accuracy. You can expect questions based on directions e.g. which side she is facing after walking a certain distance and a certain direction. This question is on the easier side. So it’s better if you solve them correctly.
- For syllogism, input-output, standing in the line: It is better if you write down the alphabets and if necessary make a rough sketch of the persons (for standing in queue questions) then approach to solve these.
- Sitting/Standing arrangements, who-stays-on-which-floor, in a group of working friends who likes which color and who works in which shift etc. kind of questions can be really tricky and if you are not thorough with practice these can take up a lot of time.
- There is negative marking so be cautious while answering reasoning questions.
2. Quantitative Aptitude – 35 marks
- Difficulty Level- You should expect moderate to high-level questions in this section. (35 questions)
- Syllabus – Number system, LCM-HCF, Number series, Decimal Fractions, partnership, Simple/compound Interest, time distance and speed, time and work, profit and loss, percentage, permutation combination, Data Interpretation.
Strategy for preparation
- It is important to practice the quantitative questions in a time bound manner.
- Try not to spend too much time on a single question. If one sum appears to be too lengthy or too time-consuming do not fixate on that. There will be plenty others that you will be able to answer.
- DI questions are comparatively easy (compared to Bank PO questions). So do not panic. But the questions are usually very lengthy so they take up a lot of your time. Practice, you will be able to improve your speed and accuracy.
- Questions from Interest (SI and CI), Profit and Loss, Percentage, Time and work, Time and Distance and Speed will be till 10th-12th.

- Difficulty Level- You can expect easy to moderate level of questions.(30 questions)
- Syllabus – Comprehension, jumbled sentence, fill in the blanks, idioms and phrases, synonyms antonyms, spelling check, spot the error in a sentence, one-word substitution.
Strategy for preparation
- Spotting the wrong in a sentence, idioms and phrases, fill in the blanks are comparatively easy and scoring. So practice them.
- Comprehension and jumbled sentences can be of comparatively high level.
- For jumbled sentences try taking 2-3 sentences at a time and arranging. Once you have arranged them it would be easier to put all of them together.
- Read English newspaper and magazines and especially the editorials. These will improve your command over the language.
Phase II-Main Examination
Main Examination will consist of Objective Tests for 250 marks against 200 question. Duration of the exam would be of 2 hours.
For the below five sections, your preparation of phase 1 would be enough to clear this round too.
